The goal of the Liberty
Elementary Library Media Center is to encourage
the enjoyment of reading and to develop
independent library media users.
The
library media center at Liberty is open every
school day from 7:15 A.M. to 2:20 P.M. The
library operates on a flexible schedule, but
each class visits the library to exchange books
every week. With teacher permission, students
may come to the library at any other time to
exchange library books. Kindergarten and first
grade students may check out one book at a time.
Second, third, fourth, and fifth graders may
check out two books at a time. Children may not
check out new books until all previous library
materials have been returned.
Children
are responsible for returning books in good
condition. If a book is damaged or lost,
students are asked to pay the cost of replacing
the book. If the book is later found, a refund
will be issued. Adults can help children by
reminding them of upcoming library visits and
providing a safe place to store library
materials.
In
addition to their scheduled library day,
students may use the library media center as
needed for research. Individuals, small groups,
or whole classes may come to the library to
gather information on topics of interest. The
Library Media Specialist is available daily to
help students with their information needs.
