Do students wear uniforms at Liberty?

Students will not wear uniforms to school at Liberty. However, there is a dress code that students should abide by. Look below to see appropriate and inappropriate items.

The following descriptions are considered “appropriate dress and appearance” for all students:

  • Pants, jeans, sweat pants or reasonable length shorts
  • Dress, skirt or skort of reasonable length
  • Shirt, top, t-shirt, sweatshirt or sweater (all must be long enough to cover tummy)
  • Tank top (straps must be at least 3-finger width)

The following items are NOT ALLOWED to be worn, shown or used:

  • Heelys (with or without wheels)
  • Backpacks with wheels
  • Spaghetti strap tops, muscle shirts, halter tops, cropped tops, tube tops, bare backs, bare midriffs, bare shoulders, bare chests
  • Baggy or sagging pants that expose under clothing

If students are in violation of the dress code a letter will be sent home and students will be asked to change into different clothing if available. To see a copy of the letter click here.

When is orientation/Back to School Night?

We are still planning our orientation/Back to School Nights right now. Our situation is a little different than most other schools in the district because our building is still under construction and we are not sure when we will be getting into the building. We are also still hiring staff, placing students, etc. We will know more at the end of July. Check back on the homepage in the "What's Happening" section as well as the calendars for dates and times.

What time will school start and dismiss at Liberty?

The doors will open at 7:15 am. Instruction will officially start at 7:45 am. Students who arrive after 7:45 am will be considered tardy. Dismissal will begin at 2:35.

Why are classrooms/grades combined (K/1, 2/3)

Our school believes in multi-age classrooms which is why K/1 and 2/3 classrooms are combined. This allows us to better teach students at their academic level by grouping students. Different teams teach different ways. Your child will more than likely start in their homeroom in the morning and throughout the day, switch classrooms among that team. For example, if their homeroom teacher is Mrs. Goins, your child may have her for literacy/reading instruction, Mrs. Smith for writing, and Mrs. Hurst for math. There are many benefits to multi-age classrooms because if you have a student who is working on a 3rd grade level, but is only in 2nd grade, they can work ahead. Likewise, if we have a 3rd grade student who is behind, they can work at a 2nd grade level to obtain the skills they need. Students are not locked into these groupings for the whole year and can move groups if they start to excel or fall behind. Many people are intimidated by the fact their child will be with older students but more often than not it is also a positive thing because it pushes the younger students to excel because they want to work and do what the older students are doing. Finally, it is the school's choice to have multi-age classrooms or "straight grades" but KY strongly advises schools to teach using a multi-age arrangement. Once you meet with your child's teacher(s), they will tell you more about how their team will be doing things.

Is Liberty still accepting students for the 2008-2009 school year?

Secretaries/attendance clerks in the district do not work year round and are only in the office during registration windows. If the registration window is open, you should first call the school (859) 381-4979. The next window will be open July 28th-August 13th. If the registration window is closed, you could contact Gary Wiseman at IAKSS who is the Director of Pupil Personnel. His email address is gary.wiseman@fayette.kyschools.us  There are two telephone numbers you can call (859) 381-4127 and (859) 381-4130. Here are some online resources for you to view that might also be helpful.
